“Compressor was locked up on our 2 year old system. Chris and Keedan took the time to troubleshoot averything and get it running again. Because he had already gotten the information he needed to have a compressor on standby, he was able to change it out the following morning. This unit now cools the house better than it did when it was brand new. There are many companies out there making HVAC repairs, but that preparation and follow up is the type of service that most companies don’t provide anymore.”

AC Repair

“The guys from American heating were great. They came out and diagnosed my AC, explained everything and had it up and running right away. They were super professional and polite. Will use again and highly recommend.”

Christopher Turner

AC Repair

“The technicians, led by 'Palm' Patel, were super. The estimate for a new HVAC system was very reasonable, and the installation speed was phenomenal. I signed off on the estimate on a Friday, and the system was installed the following Tuesday. What I truly liked about American Heating and Cooling is that they are local, Veteran-owned, and knowledgeable. Also, they made us feel like friends and neighbors, not just clients.”

David and Dawn Phillips

Heating & AC Installation

“They helped me when my normal company made a mistake last year and left me with no heat in freezing weather. They arrived promptly and fixed what the regular guys messed up! This year I decided to switch over completely and had my first maintenance service call. The staff was respectful and thorough. Highly recommended!!!”

“The other company told me my 8yr old unit needed to be replaced. Called American talked to Melanie on the phone to get a second opinion she was amazing and sent Allen and Kyle out next day. The guys showed up took a look, showed me the leak and where the other company did a really poor job of ‘fixing’ the leak last time. Allen and Kyle fixed me right up, gave me a military discount and went about their day! Luckily I called American for a second opinion and got taken care of without replacing the unit!”

Heating Repair

Columbus does not get a long winter, but it gets a real one, and a heating system that has sat unused since March is exactly the one that fails on the first cold night. We cover Columbus, Phenix City, Fort Moore & the surrounding area.

What Usually Goes Wrong, and What It Means

Heating faults tend to announce themselves before they strand you. If any of this sounds familiar, mention it when you call.

  • Blowing air that is not warm

On a furnace, often ignition. On a heat pump, often a system stuck out of its heating mode.

  • Starts, then shuts off again quickly

Short cycling, commonly a flame sensor or a restricted filter making the unit overheat.

  • Bangs or booms on start-up

Delayed ignition. Gas building up before it lights, and worth attention rather than tolerance.

  • Outside unit iced over in winter

A heat pump defrost fault. Some frost is normal; a block of ice is not.

  • Runs constantly on a cold night

Auxiliary heat carrying a load the heat pump should be handling, which shows up on the power bill.

  • Smell of gas

Leave and call the gas company first. That is not a repair call, it is a safety call.

  • Rooms that never catch up

Usually distribution rather than the equipment: ductwork, dampers, or a blower not moving what it should.

  • Never serviced since it was fitted

The single best predictor of a failure on the first genuinely cold night of the year.

Furnaces and Heat Pumps, Both

We service and install both, which matters more than it sounds. Plenty of companies in this market are comfortable with one and not the other, and a homeowner ends up steered toward whichever the technician knows rather than whichever the house actually needs. A heat pump that is misdiagnosed as a cooling fault in January is the clearest example: the symptom looks like one thing and the cause is another.

  • Gas furnaces: diagnosed and repaired by licensed technicians

  • Heat pumps: including the changeover and defrost faults that get misdiagnosed as a cooling problem

  • Same-day service: subject to availability

  • Upfront pricing: approved by you before any work begins

  • Military discounts: for those who serve

How We Work

  • The price before the work: you approve the number first, in winter as in summer.

  • We test before we replace: ignition faults in particular get misdiagnosed as dead furnaces, and a test is cheaper than a system.

  • Technicians who work on both: so the recommendation follows the house rather than the technician's comfort zone.

  • Safety first on anything gas: if it is a gas leak we tell you to leave and call the utility, not to wait for us.
